Just a quick note before I dive into what we did today... Some things are shifting a bit on the class calendar, this may happen from time to time. The shifts ALWAYS work in your favor, but you should consult the calendar to be sure you are aware of any changes. The big changes that we decided this weekend is that your third in-class LEQ will NOT be this Friday, but will instead be NEXT Friday.
Today we first talked a bit about elections in the mid 1800's based on your reading over the weekend. We followed this up with some more in-depth conversation about antebellum immigration. You did an HAPP over the platform of the Know-Nothing Party and also used some historical sources to develop and support a position on the "whiteness" of Irish immigrants in the 1840's and 1850's. We finished the day with a bit of a thought exercise using the concept of "six degrees of separation" with historical events. Tonight you need to finish uo reading the rest of Chapter 11 and also be preparing fro Thursday's in-class scored discussion. H
