We took a critical look at a set of primary sources today, specifically, advertisements from the return of runaway slaves in Colonial America. If we did not get to the debrief in class, you will find the questions you need to answer in your DocBlock posted under Period 2, #9. Also, please view the PowerPoint on historical writing linked HERE and take notes in your Writer's Block. We will discuss this on Monday. Also, don't forget Chapter 4 is due Monday! Have a great weekend!!

Today we spent the period researching, comparing, and presenting on the 13 English Colonies of North America. Don't forget to keep the charts in your Content Block.
Your Colonial maps need to be complete by tomorrow and don't forget Chapter 4 is due Monday! H We began today by examining the Netherlands Monument in New York and critiquing the history it presents. We then proceeded to use some secondary sources to explore myths and realities about the roles certain populations played in early America. We ended with a DocBlock of a letter by Richard Frethorne, an indentured servant in Virginia in 1623.
You received blank colonies maps today and a set of directions for completing them. These maps are due Friday. Also, Mr. Hutchison's classes, don't forget to reply to the 2-minute drill prompt in the blog post below! H Respond to the 2-Minute Drill prompt in the comments below. Come back after school and look through what people shares then respond to at least TWO of the comments. Your response MUST be more than "I agree," then a restatement of what they said. Expand on their analysis and add your own thoughts!
H Today we discussed your Ch. 3 notes, examined the shipping manifests of vessels headed to early Virginia and Massachusetts Bay, and ended by examining the relative wealth and life expectancy of English colonists. Well done!
For homework tonight, please read the two following documents: Until tomorrow... Today we debriefed the summer reading, A Voyage Long and Strange, and I really enjoyed the depth of your analysis. Good job! We also introduced APUSH Themes, the 7 analytical lenses that we will use to consider themes of continuity and change throughout this course.
We finished by creating the first of our "Theme Team" review posters. We'll return to these over the course of the year. You can find all classes posters in PDF form below. If a group from your class doesn't have much (it was the first time and I didn't give you a ton of time in class - it's okay!) check out the other classes. LINK HERE! (You must be logged into your WCPSS account to view the link) Happy Labor Day and three day weekend! Chapter three notes are due Tuesday :) Nearing the close of our first week together! Today we finished up our DocBlock guided directions and our analysis of a primary source from Bartolomeo de las Casas. You can find the document itself in the Period Materials under Period 1. We also discussed the Columbian Exchange, its extent and some of it's outcomes. In Mr. Hutchison's class we also discussed the 2-Minute Drill procedure. The question choices for tonight's reflection are below:
•What did you experience in class today that increased your understanding of today’s objective? -OR- •In what ways has the Columbian Exchange affected your daily routine so far today? H |
